Book Design - Instructor Dermot MacCormack
Taking place in a dystopian future inhabited by both 'regular' people and those with genetic mutations (such as additional body parts and telepathy), The Chrysalids makes an alluring candidate for a typography-based book cover. I explored multiple ways to represent genetic differences and telepathy through repetition, changing placement, and varying typefaces. In my final edition, I use pairs of parallel lines to invoke chemical bonds and an assortment of fonts to represent genetic variation.
